As Per Coast Guard Regulations:
A drug test is required for all Merchant Mariner transactions EXCEPT endorsements, duplicates, and STCW certificates.
ONLY a DOT 5 Panel (SAMHSA 5 Panel, formerly NIDA 5), testing for Marijuana, Cocaine, Opiates, Phencyclidine, and Amphetamines will be accepted.
Collection agents must meet the qualification requirements to be a collection agent given Title 49 CFR Part 40.31.
It is CRITICAL that the sample is sent to an accredited SAMHSA laboratory for ANALYSIS or the drug test is invalid.
Safe Boating America's Instructors are certified as collection agents for DOT and USCG drug testing.
During your USCG Merchant Mariner Course, or at any time by appointment, you may submit to a USCG/DOT 5-Panel drug test with us. We'll handle the rest, submitting it through the USCG-approved Medical Review Officer.
Upon successful completion of the test we'll provide the paperwork neccessary for you to submit to the US Coast Guard in conjunction with applying for your original license or renewal.
Testing takes a few minutes and we'll have your documents ready usually within 48-72 hours of testing.
